With more than 5,000 entrants in its various disciplines, the renowned red dot design award is one of the leading and largest design competitions in the world. Outstanding design quality has been selected every year since 1955 by a jury of international experts and officially honoured in a special exhibition. The excellent work of the jurors ensures the seriousness and international acceptance of the competition, and adjudicators are changed every year to achieve as high and accurate a level of objectivity in the selection procedure as possible.

Prize winners will be honoured in the traditional award ceremony in the Aalto Theater in Essen on the 26th June 2006.

In addition to the special annual exhibition for red dot award winners, the red dot design museum in the Zollverein Pit Shaft (Zeche Zollverein), a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in Essen, is home to the largest permanent exhibition of contemporary designs in the world (approximately 1,000 products displayed in a venue covering over 4,000 square metres).

“Creativity on its own is not enough, however, because products should also exhibit a high level of quality. And one of the tasks of design is to communicate this quality to us,” says Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator of the red dot design award and President of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (icsid), a partner organisation of the International Design Alliance.

GAUCHO has been awarded the “red dot award: product design 2006” in the category “Living and Sleeping” for its outstanding quality and creative characteristics.
